    The Hermetic Principles

The 7 Hermetic Principles – In Depth

These principles come from later Hermetic tradition (especially The Kybalion, 1908), not the ancient Hermetica – but they accurately reflect Hermetic worldview.

Each principle is a law of consciousness, nature, and magic.

    1. Mentalism – “All is Mind”

Everything begins as consciousness. The universe is a mental construct. Thought precedes manifestation.

Esoteric meaning: Your inner world creates your outer world.

    2. Correspondence – “As above, so below”

Macrocosm ↔ microcosm. Heaven ↔ earth. Spirit ↔ matter. Soul ↔ body.

Esoteric meaning: Patterns repeat across all levels of reality.

    3. Vibration – “Nothing rests; everything moves”

Energy is constant motion. Emotion = energy in motion. Magic = altering vibration.

Esoteric meaning: Change your frequency → change your reality.

    4. Polarity – “Opposites are identical in nature”

Light ↔ dark. Love ↔ fear. Heat ↔ cold. Life ↔ death.

Esoteric meaning: Opposites are the same thing at different degrees.

    5. Rhythm – “Everything flows”

Cycles, tides, seasons, karma. Expansion ↔ contraction. Breath in ↔ breath out.

Esoteric meaning: Mastering rhythm = mastering emotional cycles.

    6. Cause & Effect – “Nothing happens by chance”

Every action has a consequence. Every event has a cause. Every manifestation has a source.

Esoteric meaning: You become the cause, not the effect.

    7. Gender – “Everything has masculine and feminine principles”

Not biological – energetic. Masculine = action, logic, direction. Feminine = intuition, receptivity, creation.

    Esoteric meaning: Magic requires both.
